Old Sauk Loop is Great Year Round!

Old Sauk Loop is Great Year Round!

On a sprinkling Saturday morning, I took the girls up to the Mountain Loop Highway on the Darrington side. We decided to hike the Old Sauk River Loop Trail. It is an ADA hike that is graveled and just over a mile long.

The recent storms were evident from the parking lot with downed trees and debris. Crews had cut some of the downed trees along the loop, but there were still three or four to clamber over.

This easy walk was fun for the girls and we only got a little wet with drips from the huge trees that cover most of the trail from the skies above. Walking counter-clockwise, our favorite spot in the hike was a creek crossing at about a quarter mile from the car.

There is only one spot to view Sauk River along the trail and it is right at the halfway point. A huge tree was down right at this spot, nearly missing the trail signs.

We stopped in Darrington on the way home at Mountain Loop Books and Coffee for some hot cocoa and to say hello to Tony, who never forgets a face! I think the next time we head out this way, we will do the actual Old Sauk River Trail or Beaver Lake.
